Welcome to the locate feedback forum. Do you have an idea? Do you have a bug report?

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Wildcard Searches

e.g. If I search for part_of_filename .doc - should return a wildcard search not all files that match part_of_filename OR .doc (although this behaviour is also useful - should be able to specify operators e.g. OR, AND).

    • Allow searches with the "near" operator

Allow searches of the form "this near that". Should be possible already? If so, document that as a feature.

      • allow to use wildcards like opensuse*.iso, for searching (and/or regular expressions)

Most users want for example particular type of file, list iso files i have on my computer, list movies, list pictures, its very easy to do with wildcards like "*.iso" or "*terminator*.avi", even more powerful would be to use regular expressions (may be optionally with some parameter like -r .*kitten.*\.(jpg|jpeg)$ to look for any jpeg or jpg file with "kitten" in name.

          • Add a graphical interface

Add a graphical interface for those who are not command prompt ninjas.

              • Index when PC is idle

Don't just index once a night, index when PC is idle. Vista scheduled tasks have options for how long the PC is idle before they start up.
